华南理工大学周嘉嘉教授应邀作《Onsager Variational Principle and Its Application in Soft Matter Systems》专题讲座


   2024830日,华南理工大学(South China University of Technology)周嘉嘉教授受微纳高分子与界面科学课题组邀请,到浙江理工大学化学与化工学院、浙江省高分子材料表界面科学重点实验室进行学术交流,并在浙江理工大学下沙校区19-531多功能厅作题为《Onsager Variational Principle and Its Application in Soft Matter Systems》专题讲座。课题组及学院相关专业师生积极参与本次学术讲座。

   周嘉嘉教授先是为我们介绍了华南理工大学前沿软物质学院的建设历程和研究方向,接着简单讲解了软物质的定义,然后引出本次讲座的核心内容——一种对软物质而言可以用于推导动力学的普适方法——Onsager Variational Principle。这最早是由OnsagerRayleigh的最小能量耗散原理推广到一般可逆过程。周老师简单解释了这一变分原理是从能量与耗散的角度去推导,为推导软物质非平衡现象的动力学方程提供了一个方便的框架。在这个框架中,系统的所有能量被分为free energy、dissipation、external constraint三大类,周老师用capilary filling in a tube,②stratification of binary colloidal solution under evaporation,③beads-on-string structure formation of viscoelastic filaments,三个例子为我们示范了Onsager Variational Principle框架的基本使用方法,证明了该方法的普适性。

   在最后的讨论环节,课题组师生与周嘉嘉教授就相关问题积极交流探讨,收获颇丰。


周教授简介:Jiajla Zhou received his BSc in physics from Peking Uniersity in 2002. He then went to McMaster University in Canada and obtained his PhD in physics in 2010,under the supervision of Prof. An-Chang Shi. He was a postdoctoral researcher from 2011 to 2015 at University Mainz in Germany with Prof. Friederike Schmid. He joined Beihang University as an Associate Professor in 2015, and moved to SCUT in 2021.His research focuses on theoretical modelling and computer simulation of soft matter.
